Why Your Website Address Is Important

Your website address should be easy for people to remember at a glance. That way, they can easily find it again.

1. It's good if the address has meaning!

The best addresses are easily understood without explanation. And it's even better if it's a word found in an English dictionary.

2. The shorter, the better!
Shorter addresses are easier to remember, right? However, English word domains with less than 5 characters are often already registered, making them difficult to find.

3. Always buy a .com.

The reason why you should buy a .com is so obvious that I'll skip it.

4. The domain's past history should be clean!
If someone has used the domain before, it's better if it has been used normally for a long time. The most important thing is to check if the domain has no spam score.

Wow..... durumis is amazing. It's been over a year since I started...

Before I created my website, I honestly didn't like the name 'durumis' and the number of characters in the address. It felt like the meaning was forced in, rather than having the feel of a natural English word, and besides, 'durumis' is 7 characters long. But when I tried to choose an address myself, finding a decent domain with a short English word was almost impossible. (I understand durumis's position. I'm sorry.) So, after much deliberation, I named it after the name of my neighborhood coffee shop, making it 6 characters long. It costs \13,000 won a year. If I don't set up automatic payment, I have to make a payment again on December 27th next year.

Hosting Provider

Choosing a hosting provider is extremely, extremely, extremely important. In Korea, Gabia and Cafe24 have high market share, but they are not cost-effective. I strongly discourage domestic providers!
durumis uses GCP (Google Cloud Platform). However, I don't know how to handle servers, so I'm planning to use hosting that beginners can use!!

The only providers I know are GoDaddy, Google Cloud Platform, Amazon AWS, and Squarespace—only four.

Personally, I dislike GoDaddy. When I searched for domain addresses, GoDaddy seemed to have cornered the market on all of them. (I hate cornering the market!)

Considering that the number one provider doesn't have more than 10% market share, and the most famous Amazon AWS has only 4.7%, I can't imagine how many servers there are worldwide.

After much deliberation, I chose Hostinger. There are three reasons why I chose this provider, but I will only explain two today.

1. Server configuration is extremely easy!

I was considering using Amazon AWS, but for creating WordPress, there was no reason to use Amazon. Since easy and convenient management is the best, I chose Hostinger! Preparing the account and installing WordPress took only 2 minutes.

Hostinger is a multinational company from Lithuania. Lithuania is considered one of the leading IT countries. It boasts exceptional capabilities, particularly in terms of digital technology and IT infrastructure. Lithuanian IT professionals are active in international companies, and Hostinger is one of them. The capital, Vilnius, is known as a "startup-friendly city." It is prominent in fintech, SaaS (Software as a Service), AI, and blockchain fields. As a result, global companies favor Lithuania as an IT service outsourcing location because it provides cost-effective, high-quality services. Above all, the Lithuanian government actively supports digitalization and IT innovation, positioning the IT industry as a core pillar of the national economy.

Ultimately, I chose Hostinger because of these reasons and its growth potential.

2. The price is very affordable.

If you're running a typical WordPress site, you can use the cheapest plan at \4,109 won per month. This is more than enough for someone running a new website.

However, because I need to operate for overseas users, I chose a cloud plan with CDN options. (I'll explain what CDN is on another occasion!)

I chose the cheapest cloud startup plan. You can get a small discount if you search for coupons online. I won't provide a link to avoid being misunderstood as an advertisement.

When choosing an overseas hosting provider... you are greatly affected by exchange rates. High exchange rates mean tears. A 4-year contract is cheaper, but I only bought a 1-year subscription to extend when the exchange rate goes down. (Consider the exchange rate!)
